Green bean casserole is a very popular side dish created in America. Learn how to create the most delicious vegan green bean casserole with the flavor of the authentic recipe.

  • 500g green beans, rinsed and trimmed
  • 2 Tbsp vegan butter or olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, julienned
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 250g mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 Tbsp flour - use GF if needed
  • ¾ cup vegetable broth
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1 cup French fried onions (homemade)
  • salt and pepper to taste
  1. Preheat the oven to 200C.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, add the vegan butter or olive oil, onion and garlic, and cook stirring for about 4 minutes. Add salt and pepper.
  3. Add the flour and whisk to stir and coat the veggies. Cook for 1 minute.
  4. Add the vegetable broth, whisking to incorporate.
  5. Add the almond milk, continue whisking.
  6. Cook for about 5 more minutes or until thick.
  7. Add green beans and sliced mushrooms and give it a stir. Remove from heat.
  8. Move everything into a casserole and cook in the oven for 20 minutes, until the beans are tender.
