Mince pie is a traditional English dessert that is usually made and served around Christmas time in the United Kingdom and certain parts of the United States.
A mince pie is an oven-baked pie filled with ”mincemeat” – which in spite of its name doesn’t always contain meat.
Mince pie can be either a snack or dessert, even though nowadays it is usually the latter, due to the contents of its delicious filling.
Nowadays, the mince pies are usually vegetarian, except for the ones made with beef suet, which itself can be replaced by vegetable shortening.
There are three different spices that need to be added to the recipe, namely cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg, so make sure you don't omit them!
Be it sweet, savory, spicy or anywhere in-between, a big tray of mince pies is always welcome on the Christmas table!
