This easy apple crisp layers tender, cinnamon-spiced apples under a buttery, crunchy oat-and-brown-sugar topping baked to golden perfection. It comes together with a handful of pantry staples for a warm, comforting dessert everyone loves.

Ingredients 

For the apple crisp filling:

  • 6 Granny Smith apples peeled and diced
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

For the oat crisp layer:

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¾ cup oat flakes
  • ¾ cup white flour use gluten-free flour, if needed
  • ½ cup butter diced, at room temperature
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish with butter or oil.
  • In a bowl, combine the diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice.
  • Mix well, then transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish.
  • In another bowl, prepare the topping by mixing all the topping ingredients until crumbly.
  • Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apple mixture.
  • Bake in the preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 40-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
  • Serve the warm apple crisp with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or yogurt. Enjoy!

Notes

Store leftovers covered in the fridge for up to 4 days and warm before serving. For a vegan version, swap the butter for firm plant-based butter or cold coconut oil and top with dairy-free ice cream instead of the dairy scoop.
