Ingredients

  • 1 block firm smoked tofu sliced
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil for frying

For the marinade:

  • ½ cup water hot
  • 2 Tbsp soy sauce or tamari
  • 2 tsp brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp nutritional yeast
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp tomato paste

Instructions

  • Drain the excess liquid from the tofu block, then cut it into thin slices.
  • Lay the slices out in a single layer on a kitchen towel and press gently to pat them dry.
  • In a small container that fits the tofu slices snugly, add all the marinade ingredients and mix well.
  • Add the tofu slices to the marinade, making sure they are coated on both sides, and let them sit for about 20 minutes.
  • Heat a skillet over medium heat.
  • Add the olive oil. Once it is hot, lay the tofu slices in the skillet in a single layer.
  • Fry for about 4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  • Transfer to a paper towel to absorb the excess oil.
  • Serve and enjoy!

Notes

Use tamari instead of soy sauce to keep this gluten-free. Store the tofu bacon in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days and crisp it back up in a hot dry skillet for about a minute per side before serving.
