Tips and tricks for a perfect Dutch apple crumb pie

To get the perfect Dutch apple crumb pie, here are some useful tips and tricks:

  • Choose the right apples: Opt for quality apples, such as Granny Smith or Golden Delicious, which are firm and juicy. Avoid using varieties that break down during baking and that can make the cake too watery.
  • Prepare the apples properly: Clean and slice the apples into thin and uniform slices to ensure even baking and a pleasant texture of the cake. You can use tools such as a sharp knife or a special device for slicing apples to obtain thin and uniform slices.
  • Avoid the liquefaction of the dough: To prevent the liquefaction of the dough during baking, you can use a thin layer of breadcrumbs or flour on the bottom of the baking tray to absorb the excess moisture from the apples. It is also important to drain the apples well after slicing them to remove excess juice.
  • Flavor the dough: Add spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg or vanilla to the dough to intensify the aroma and taste of the cake. These ingredients will give the cake a warm and comforting note, perfect for the cold season.
  • Bake in stages: To ensure even baking of the cake, you can try baking the dough for a few minutes before adding the apples, then add the apples and continue baking until the dough is golden and crispy, and the apples are soft and tender.

With these practical tips, you will be able to prepare a perfect Dutch apple pie, with a fluffy and crunchy dough and a juicy and aromatic filling of fresh apples.
