What does charcuterie mean?

The origin of the charcuterie concept can be traced back in time, to the culinary traditions of France and other European countries, where the processing and preservation of meat have been common practices since antiquity. The term “charcuterie” comes from the French language and refers to the art of preparing and serving a variety of processed meat and meat products, such as ham, salami, pâtés, and other delicacies.

Although charcuterie is traditionally a concept based on meat, it can be easily adapted to be included in a vegan or vegetarian diet. Adapting a vegan charcuterie involves replacing meat products with vegetable alternatives, or with other appetizers such as vegan cheeses, nuts, seeds, marinated vegetables, etc.
